International Women's Day (IWD) is a global holiday celebrated annually on March 8 as a focal point in the women's rights movement, bringing attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women. On this auspicious occasion, Maharishi Law School, Maharishi University of Information Technology portrayed a Nukkad Natak performance to raise awareness about women’s rights and gender equality. As per the circular issued by DLSA, vide no. 145/DLSA/Gautam Buddh Nagar, dated 02.03.2023, the students from Maharishi Law School actively took part and showcased their enthusiasm as a mark of celebration.
Dr. Bhanu Pratap Singh (Vice Chancellor), Dr. Trapty Aggarwal (Dean Academics), Dr. Annu Bahl Mehra (Deputy Dean), faculty members of Maharishi Law School, Dr. Ritu Singh Meena, Dr. Deependra Pathak, Mr. Arun Kumar, Mr. Vikas Sharma, Mr. Amal Srivastava, Mr. Anmol Sah, Miss Prabha Tripathi, Miss Nancy Srivastava, Miss Sakshi Sharma, and Deans from other departments were present to witness the gracious performance.
The students depicted how a young, minor girl was deprived of education and thrown under the marital system of a patriarchal ideology. Her marital life was made more miserable when unreasonable dowry demands and constant jibes were made by her in-laws during the festive occasion of Holi. However, her supportive husband stood up and made his parents realize their mistake. This progressive mindset helped normalize relations and supported the education of the girl child.
Students who took part are Tanu, Himanshi, Piyush, Dhananjay, Deepanshu, Ananya, Ayushi, and Anirudh. The performance was appreciated and applauded by all present. Thereafter, we celebrated Holi with a petal shower and gulal.
