Date of Event: 26th September, 2025
Organized by: Maharishi Law School, MUIT Noida
Objective:
The Maharishi Law School, MUIT Noida Campus, organized a court visit to the Saket District Court, New Delhi on 26th September 2025. The visit aimed to provide students with an invaluable opportunity to gain practical exposure to the judicial process and observe courtroom procedures in a real-life setting.
The visit was conducted for students of the BA LLB and BBA LLB programs from Maharishi Law School.
At the Saket District Court, New Delhi, the students were divided into groups of five or six by Mr. Ketan Kumar and Ms. Ritika Sharma, Assistant Professors, Maharishi Law School. Each group was introduced to several public prosecutors who were assigned to guide them through the day’s proceedings. These prosecutors provided valuable context and explanations about the cases being heard, the nature of the offences, and the procedural steps involved.
During the visit, students were taken around various sections of the court, including the Sessions Court, Family Court, Mediation Room, Ahlmad Room, Lawyers’ Block, Bar Room, and Utility Block. Observing these sections firsthand gave them valuable exposure to the practical side of the legal system and helped them understand how the court functions beyond the theoretical concepts studied in books. Experiencing the real environment of the court made learning more engaging and meaningful.
Students observed a variety of cases, ranging from bail hearings and framing of charges to witness examinations and final arguments. Sitting in the courtroom, they witnessed how evidence is presented, how judges interact with advocates, and how procedural rules are meticulously followed. The public prosecutors explained the importance of each stage of a trial, the burden of proof in criminal cases, and the construction of legal arguments. Through this experience, students not only understood the theoretical aspects of criminal law but also gained insights into its real-world challenges and nuances.
The students also had the opportunity to interact with the Chief Public Prosecutor, as well as the Session Judge, Additional Session Judge, and Additional District Judge. The judges shared their valuable insights on building a legal career. One of them shared her personal journey, highlighting that litigation can be challenging in the early years, especially for first-generation lawyers, but with skill, patience, and dedication, success is achievable. She encouraged students to attempt Judiciary and Civil Services examinations, advised them to take up all kinds of cases initially, and emphasized the importance of internships and learning the art of cross-examination. Her words were both practical and inspiring.
This visit proved to be an eye-opening experience for many students, especially those aspiring to pursue careers in litigation or criminal law. It offered a rare opportunity to observe the justice system in motion and reflect on the role of legal professionals in upholding the rule of law. The interaction with public prosecutors also helped students appreciate the ethical and professional responsibilities that come with legal practice.
Overall, the court visit to Saket District Court was a valuable educational experience that successfully bridged the gap between classroom learning and courtroom realities. The visit was efficiently coordinated by Mr. Ketan Kumar and Ms. Ritika Sharma.
The court visit to Saket District Court received highly positive feedback from students, who found the experience both educational and inspiring. Many students expressed that this was their first opportunity to witness actual court proceedings, and the exposure significantly deepened their understanding of the judicial process. They appreciated the chance to observe live cases and were particularly impressed by the professionalism and courtroom decorum of both judges and advocates. Several students shared that the theoretical knowledge gained in class became much clearer after seeing it applied in real-life scenarios.
