A Report on
“Financial Statement Analysis”

Organized by: Finance Club, Maharishi School of Business Management, Noida
Objective:
The objective of the activity was to equip students with practical skills in reading, interpreting, and analyzing financial statements for decision-making and strategic insight. These activities not only built essential financial literacy but also strengthened their technical, analytical, and communication abilities, thereby preparing students for real-world business and investment analysis.
Participating Students:
A total of 20 students (5 groups) from BBA and B.Com 2nd and 3rd year participated in the activity.
About the Event:
It was a group activity in which students worked in teams of 4–5 members. Each group was assigned two companies’ annual reports or quarterly results. Their task was to calculate and extract key financial data in the form of ratios, such as:
In addition, students performed Vertical and Horizontal Analysis and identified trends, strengths, and weaknesses (SWOT) based on their calculations. They also compared the financial performance of two competing firms to arrive at meaningful insights.
Judgment and Winners:
The event was judged by Dr. Aditya Yadav (Deputy Dean, MSOBM). After a thorough evaluation based on accuracy of calculations, interpretation of financials, application and clarity of concepts, and overall presentation, the winners were declared as follows:
Conclusion:
The Financial Statement Analysis Activity proved to be a highly engaging and educational event. Students became skilled at analyzing balance sheets and income statements, which are crucial for understanding a company’s financial health. The participants were appreciated by Prof. (Dr.) Smita Mishra (Dean, MSOBM) for their outstanding work, and all participants received certificates for their enthusiastic involvement.
