INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHT DAY-
‘IPR AND MUSIC’   2024-25

Organized by: Maharishi Law School in coordination with IQAC

Objective of the Workshop

In celebration of World Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Day, officially observed on 26th April, Maharishi Law School, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and SS Rana & Co., organized an engaging and insightful workshop on 17th April 2025. The session focused on the theme “IPR and Music”, highlighting the intricate connection between legal protection and the creative industry, particularly in the realm of musical works.

The workshop attracted enthusiastic participation from students of B.A. LL.B., B.B.A. LL.B., and LL.B. courses, providing them with a valuable opportunity to learn from experienced legal professionals and gain practical insights into intellectual property rights.

The event was graced by two distinguished guests from SS Rana & Co.:

  • Mr. Bhanu Dhingra – Senior Associate, SS Rana & Co.
  • Ms. Swayam Siddha Das – Associate, SS Rana & Co.

The speakers offered in-depth perspectives on various facets of intellectual property rights in the context of music. Key themes included:

  • Copyright protection for lyrics, melodies, and performances
  • Rights of composers, singers, and producers
  • Role of copyright societies and licensing practices
  • Legal remedies against piracy and infringement
  • Discussion on landmark judgments involving music rights

Real-life case studies and an interactive Q&A session kept the audience deeply engaged and helped contextualize legal principles through practical scenarios.

Special Segment: Batch Ceremony

Following the workshop, a Batch Ceremony was conducted for two student-led legal bodies:

  • Maharishi Student Bar Forum (MSBF)
  • Maharishi Debate Society (MDS)

New members were formally inducted and encouraged to contribute actively to the legal academic environment through debates, moot courts, legal aid camps, and awareness drives.
