Organized by:  Social Technocrats: STc, Maharishi School of Engineering & Technology, MUIT Noida in association with IQAC

 

The Git/GitHub Workshop was a two-day hands-on session designed to introduce students to version control and collaborative development using Git and GitHub organized by the Social Technocrats (STc) team under the School of Engineering and Technology (SoET), MUIT Noida, providing students with hands-on experience in version control and collaborative software development. The workshop spanned two days, held on 7th February and 10th February 2025, and was conducted in an interactive and practical manner.

Workshop Details:

Day 1 (7th February 2025): Designed exclusively for B.Tech. first-year students.

Day 2 (10th February 2025): Focused on BCA and MCA first-year students.

Workshop Mentors:

The sessions were conducted by Aayush Dixit & Madhur Choudhary (B.Tech. 3rd Year), who guided participants through Git and GitHub fundamentals to advanced topics.

Topics Covered:

The workshop covered a comprehensive range of topics, ensuring that students gained both theoretical and practical knowledge. Key concepts included:

  •  Introduction to Git and GitHub – Understanding the importance of version control.
  • Creating a Repository – Setting up and managing repositories.
  • Pushing & Pulling Code – Working with remote repositories through the terminal.
  • File Tracking & Status – Checking changes, staging, and committing files.
  • Adding Untracked Files – Moving files from the working directory to staging.
  • Staging Area & Commits – Understanding the lifecycle of files in Git.
  • Branching & Merging – Creating and managing branches efficiently.
  • Rebasing – Keeping a clean commit history.
  • Forking & Cloning – Contributing to open-source projects.
  • Remote Repositories & Origins – Managing repositories on GitHub.
  • Resolving Conflicts - while merging branches
  • Checkout - to previous commits
  • Tracking - other teammates changes

Impact & Learning Outcomes:

The workshop provided an in-depth understanding of Git and GitHub, equipping students with industry-relevant skills essential for collaborative software development. The hands-on sessions ensured that participants could confidently use Git for version control, contributing to personal and professional projects.
