Objective of the Seminar: The National Pharmacy Week (NPW) aimed to recognize the contributions of pharmacists to the healthcare system and raising awareness about the role of pharmacists beyond dispensing medications. It also serves as an opportunity to highlight the advancements in pharmacy practice and encourage the professional development of pharmacy staff as well as building healthier communities and inspiring wellness worldwide.

 

Participating Students: B. Pharm and D. Pharm students were the primary attendees of this event. Pharmacy students actively participated in various events such as Pharma quiz competitions, debate competitions, Health camp and more.

 

Overview of National Pharmacy week celebrations: National Pharmacy week celebrations were organized by the Indian Pharmaceutical Association every year during the third week of November. The theme selected for this year was "Think Health, Think Pharmacy” aimed to celebrate, acknowledge, and raise awareness about the community, the contributions of the pharmacists to the medical sector in India. From November 21 to 22, 2024, the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (SOPS) department in coordination with IQAC has celebrated National Pharmacy Week 2024. On this occasion Pharmacy department organized a successful health camp on November 21, 2024 and a debate & quiz Competition on November 22, 2024. The event aimed to promote health awareness, provide free health check-ups, and offer medication counseling to the community.

Student Participation:

Pharmacy students actively participated in different events like Pharma quiz competitions, debate competitions, Health camp etc. Students showcased their creativity ideas through poster-making and demonstrated their scientific enthusiasm in quiz competitions as well. Faculty members also joined the event and made the event more interesting and informative by sharing valuable suggestions with the students.

 

Health Camp: The primary objective of this health check-up camp was to create awareness of general health among the people, provide general health care services, and counselling them on basic healthcare and hygiene practices. The school of pharmaceutical sciences provide the free health check-up camp to emphasize the importance of regular health Check-ups: Over 200 individuals received free health check-ups, which included tests for blood pressure, heart rate, pulse rate, ABO blood group, blood sugar, and more. The event was coordinated by health camp coordinators Ms. Vaishali, Ms. Preetshikha, Dr. Arun, Pushpendra, and Mr. Parvez.

 

 

Debate Competition:

The debate competition, held on November 21 and 22, 2024, was coordinated by Ms. Mallika Agarwal and Ms. Kshama Srivastava. The topics for debate were: “AI in Medicine,” “Should Smoking be Banned?” and “Brand Medicine vs. Generic Medicine.” Eleven students registered for the debate, presenting arguments on these thought-provoking topics. The debates covered the benefits and drawbacks of AI in medicine, the impact of tobacco bans on public health and the economy, and the pros and cons of generic versus branded medicines. The first prize in the debate competition was awarded to Akhil Dubey (B.Pharm 1st year) and Aditi Sakral (B.Pharm 2nd year).

 

Quiz Competition:

The quiz competition, organized on November 21, 2024, was coordinated by Ms. Monika Joshi and Mr. Mukul Nishad. A total of 190 students from D. Pharm, B. Pharm, Pharm D, and M. Pharm participated. The quiz focused on pharmacovigilance and included multiple-choice questions to test participants’ knowledge. The quiz competition was a great success, with teams competing through preliminary, semifinal, and final rounds. The winners of the quiz competition were Ankit Saraswat, Khushi Tiwari, and Amit Srivastava from B. Pharm 3rd year.

 

The event inspired students to make a positive impact on healthcare and deepened their understanding of the pharmacy profession. The success of the National Pharmacy Week celebration would not have been possible without the tireless efforts and dedication of our esteemed faculty members, lab technicians, event coordinators, student coordinators, and volunteers. A total of 1,000 health tests were performed by B. Pharm and D. Pharm students across the categories mentioned
