Objective of the Visit: The aim of the hospital visit is to understand hospital organization, to study the healthcare system, to study hospital pharmacy, and to understand the role of pharmacists in hospitals.
Participating Students: D. Pharm (I year & II year).
The hospital visit for the academic year 2024-2025 took place on October 16, 2024, at the Yatharth Super Speciality Hospital, Sector 110, Noida, Uttar Pradesh-201304.
In Noida, doctors and pharmacists working for Yatharth Hospital have a recognized name in patient care. They are one of the well-known hospitals in Noida. Backed with a vision to offer the best in patient care and equipped with technologically advanced healthcare facilities, they are one of the upcoming names in the health care industry. Located in, this hospital is easily accessible by various means of transport. A team of well-trained medical staff, non-medical staff, and experienced clinical technicians work round the clock to offer various services, making them one of the best hospitals in Noida.
The students arrived at the hospital around 3:15pm and were warmly welcomed by the hospital's departmental staff. They were introduced to the hospital's structure and its various departments, particularly focusing on the pharmacy and how it collaborates with other medical units.
Students got a chance to visit various departments like ICU, OPD, OT, Pharmacy, IPD, etc., and the knowledge given by healthcare providers to them at the time of visit will provide a bright vision to students so that they can easily understand the importance of healthcare systems.
The students were given a brief on how the hospital formulary is managed. They learned how hospitals decide which medicines to keep in stock based on factors such as effectiveness, cost, and patient needs. This session emphasized the importance of rational drug use and cost-effective healthcare. The students observed how pharmacists review doctors’ prescriptions to ensure that the right medication, dosage, and form are being given to patients. They were also introduced to the role of pharmacists in providing information about drug interactions, side effects, and counseling patients on medication usage.
The students had an interactive Q&A session with the hospital’s pharmacists, where they could ask questions about the profession, challenges in the field, and real-life scenarios. This allowed them to gain deeper insights into the profession and the role pharmacists play in ensuring patient safety and effective treatment.
The visit concluded with a brief discussion on the experiences gained. The students expressed their appreciation for the hands-on exposure and the valuable lessons learned, which reinforced the theoretical knowledge they had acquired in the classroom. They left with a better understanding of the clinical, technical, and managerial aspects of hospital pharmacy practice. This field visit to the hospital made the students know about the procedure undertaken in the hospital, the facilities available in the hospital, the equipment used to diagnose the disease, and the special treatment given in the hospital. This visit will impart memorable and useful knowledge for the future of the students.
