Maharishi Law School is organizing a Maharishi Mahesh Yogi National Law Festival from 3rd October, 2024, to 6th October, 2024. It includes a remarkable lineup of five competitions: the 4th MMY International Conference, the 2nd MMY National Moot Court Competition, the 2nd MMY National Judgment Writing Competition, the 2nd MMY National Legislative Drafting Competition, and the 2nd MMY National Client Counseling Competition, cultivating a platform where students can showcase their advocacy and drafting skills, preparing them for real-world legal challenges.
Objectives
Day-1 Highlights of Law Fest (Inaugural):
Date: 03rd October, 2024
The inaugural session of the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi National Law Festival commenced with the registration of participants, which was completed by 9:30 AM. The formal session began at 10:45 AM, starting with a Guru Puja conducted by Dr. Mudita Agarwal and Mr. Gaurav Thakur. Following this, the Hon'ble Director General (DG), Prof. (Gp. Capt.) OP Sharma, felicitated the keynote speaker, Prof. (Dr.) Amit Ludri. Prof. (Dr.) KB Asthana, Dean of Maharishi Law School (MLS), then delivered a presentation highlighting the growth of Maharishi University of Information Technology (MUIT) and its Law School. This was followed by an address from the Dean-Academics of MUIT Noida, Prof. (Dr.) Trapty Agarwal. The Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Bhanu Pratap Singh, then extended a warm welcome to all present.
After the keynote address by Prof. (Dr.) Amit Ludri, the Conference Proceedings, and the National Law Festival were officially released. The Hon'ble DG Sir, Prof. (Gp. Capt.) OP Sharma, imparted his words of blessings, after which the Deputy Dean of MLS, Dr. Amita Rathi, delivered the vote of thanks. The session concluded with the National Anthem, following which all participants proceeded for the drawing of lots and exchange of memorials for the preliminary round of the National Moot Court Competition being held on October 4, 2024, after which everyone headed for lunch. The day then transitioned into the technical sessions of the International Conference, marking the beginning of an enriching academic exchange. The International Conference on "Law and Technologies: Issues & Solutions," organized in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), was a significant academic event hosted by Maharishi University of Information Technology (MUIT). The conference brought together renowned legal scholars and professionals to explore the dynamic relationship between law and emerging technologies. The organizing team, led by Dr. Amita Rathi, Dr. Swapnil Pandey, and Mr. Ketan Kumar, along with student coordinators Mr. LB Kiran and Ms. Anushka Ghosh, ensured a seamless and enriching experience for all attendees.
The conference featured an esteemed guest list, with Prof. (Dr.) Anupam Jha, Prof. (Dr.) Aravindan Blore, Prof. (Dr.) Sujata Bali, and Prof. (Dr.) Aditya Tomar as chairs. Co-chairs included notable figures like Prof. (Dr.) Kishori Lal, Dr. Apeksha Kumari, Dr. Aparajitha Ariyadasa, and several other prominent academicians from prestigious institutions. The conference focused on addressing critical legal challenges posed by technological advancements and provided a platform for fruitful discussions on innovative legal solutions.
Day-2 Highlights of Law Fest:
Date: 04th October, 2024
Second day of the Maharishi National Law Festival, hosted by Maharishi Law School, With the distinguished presence of Hon’ble Dr. Dinesh Sharma as the Chief Guest, alongside Hon’ble Dr. Bhanu Pratap Singh, Vice Chancellor of MUIT, the festival commenced with a solemn Guru Puja and Swastik Vacham ceremony, setting a reflective tone for the day’s proceedings. The Vice-Chancellor then delivered an inspiring welcome address, setting a positive tone for the festival. Subsequently, Prof. (Dr.) KB Asthana, Dean of Maharishi Law School, presented insights into the growth of the college and its law department, highlighting significant achievements and future aspirations. This was followed by an insightful address from the Chief Guest, Hon’ble Dr. Dinesh Sharma, who shared valuable perspectives on the importance of legal education and advocacy. He also presented tokens of appreciation to the organizing committee for their hard work and commitment. In addition to thought-provoking speeches and captivating performances such as the Nukkad Natak on women empowerment, the day also featured key legal competitions. Moreover, the Judgment Writing competition provided a platform for participants to demonstrate their legal reasoning and analytical abilities.
An eventful day at the Maharishi National Law Festival, beginning promptly at 10 AM with the researcher test of the Moot Court competition. This was followed by the first round of the client counseling competition, showcasing the exceptional talent and skills of the participating students. Moreover, the Judgment Writing competition provided a platform for participants to demonstrate their legal reasoning and analytical abilities. Students from various colleges across the country actively engaged in the preliminary rounds of the Moot Court and Client Counseling competitions, showcasing their advocacy skills and legal acumen in dynamic and challenging scenarios. Their performances demonstrated not only their preparedness but also their ability to think critically under pressure.
Day-3 Highlights of Law Fest:
Date: 05th October, 2024
The third day at Maharishi National Law Festival started with the results declaration of the preliminary rounds for the moot court and client counseling competitions. It was followed by the National Legislative Drafting Competition, quarterfinals and semi-finals of the National Moot Court, and semi-finals of the National Client Counselling Competition. This segment was held in the auditorium. Simultaneously, a Draw of Lots for the Quarterfinals and a Memorial Exchange took place, fostering an environment of collaboration and strategic exchange among participants. The event also included a felicitation of judges at the Maharishi Law School (MLS), honoring their contributions to the legal field; concurrently, an international conference technical session was held. As a highlight, the Bachelor of Journalism and Mass Communication (BaJMC) students produced a short film briefing the judges on the moot problem, enhancing the understanding and context for the competitions. Following this, the National Legislative Drafting Competition was conducted, centered around the significant theme of “the protection of victims of digital arrest.” The day continued with the quarterfinals of the National Moot Court Competition, where students engaged in intense legal battles, and the semi-finals of the National Client Counselling Competition, demonstrating their skills in client interaction and problem-solving.
The competitions were judged by several distinguished legal professionals, including Adv. C. Adhikesavan, Adv. Siddarth Agarwal, Adv. Sanjeev Kataria, Adv. Aishwarya Dobhal, Adv. Rahul Sabharwal, Adv. Abhishek Khanna, Adv. Hansleen Singh Sodhi, Adv. Rahul Singh, Adv. Ritu Goyal, and Adv. Shilpi Saurav Sharan, who provided invaluable insights and support to the participants throughout the event. Their presence added significant prestige and encouraged the students in their legal pursuits. Students actively engaged themselves in the National Legislative Drafting Competition, where they applied their knowledge to create well-structured legislation, reflecting their understanding of the legislative process of the country.
The quarterfinals of the National Moot Court Competition provided an exciting platform for students to present their arguments and counterarguments, further sharpening their legal skills. In the National Client Counseling Competition, participants demonstrated their proficiency in client interaction, displaying empathy and strategic thinking. As the results of the quarterfinal round were declared, students eagerly anticipated the draw of lots for the semi-finals, which fostered a sense of anticipation and camaraderie among the participants. Their engagement throughout the event illustrated their dedication to the legal profession and their commitment to advocating for justice and social issues.
Day-4 Highlights of Law Fest (Valedictory)
Date: 06th October, 2024
The day commenced with the announcement of the semi-final results for both the National Moot Court Competition and the National Client Counseling Competition, followed by the Memorial Exchange for the final round of the Moot Court Competition, which continued until 9:30 AM. Immediately after, the final round of the client counseling competition was held, concluding by 11:00 AM. At 11:30 AM, the final round of the Moot Court Competition took place in the Moot Court Hall of Maharishi Law School, wrapping up by 2:00 PM. Following a lunch break, the valedictory session started at 3:00 PM in the auditorium. Dr. Mudita Agarwal and Mr. Gaurav Thakur formally commenced the session with a Guru Puja, after which Panditji performed the Swasti Vachanam for the Chief Guest, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Navin Sinha. He was felicitated by Hon’ble DG Prof. (Gp. Capt.) OP Sharma, while the Guest of Honor, Hon’ble Mr. Ashwani Kumar Dubey (Advocate on Record), was honored by the Dean-Academics. The event concluded with
cultural performances, sponsor speeches, blessings from DG Sir, a musical performance by The Octave, and a vote of thanks from Dr. Amita Rathi, closing with the National Anthem. For this prestigious National Law Festival, Law Chakra served as the media partner alongside six sponsors and participation from over 275 students representing 50+ universities and law colleges.
In the National Moot Court Competition, the winner was team MMY 112 (Hritvvik V. Kapoor, Abhijeet Chaudhary, Shreyansh Choudhary) from Amity University, Noida, with MMY 116 (Noorain Iqbal, Reet Sharma, Aditi Srivastava) from Delhi Metropolitan Education, Noida, as the first runner-up. The best memorial was awarded to team MMY 114 (Prajukta Roy, Ashita Pandey, Helena Patricia Dessa) from JIMS Engineering Management Technical Campus, while Abhijeet Chaudhary from team MMY 112 was named the best mooter, and Sneha Uniyal from team MMY 110 was recognized as the best researcher. A total of 28 teams with 84 participants competed in the Moot Court event. In the National Client Counseling Competition, team VMCLC04 (Pranav Raj and Riddhi Saluja) from Gitarattan International Business School emerged victorious, with team VMCLC15 (Vanshika Sharma and Ayoushi Jain) from Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies as the first runner-up and VMCLC19 (Avishek Palit and Abishek Singh) from Symbiosis Law School as the second runner-up. Chandani from MUIT's BALLB 3rd semester was named the best client, while Deepshikha Verma from MUIT's BALLB 5th semester was recognized as the second-best client. A total of 24 teams with 48 participants competed in this event. The National Legislation Drafting competition saw team MMYLD 03 (Karan Sharma and Sanskriti Singh) from Trinity Institute of Professional Studies winning the top spot, with team MMYLD 02 (Devansh Bhatia and Gaurav Singh Mehra) from MUIT, Noida, as the first runner-up and team MMYLD 07 (Hritvvik V. Kapoor and Esha Chawla) from Amity Law College, Noida, securing the second runner-up position. The National Judgment Writing competition was won by team MMYJW 05 (Divya Singhvi and Himanshu Gour) from JECRC University, with team MMYJW 01 (Radhika Poonia and Aditya Singh Kanshana) from Lloyd Law College, Greater Noida, as the first runner-up and team MMYJW 09 (Muskan Bothra) from National Law University, Nagpur, as the second runner-up. Fourteen teams with 26 participants competed in this event. Dr. Aniruddha Panja from NLSIU, Bangalore, won the International Conference held as part of the festival.
The final day of the National Law Festival provided an exceptional platform for student engagement, demonstrating legal knowledge and practical abilities.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Amita Rathi, Deputy Dean of Maharishi Law School, and the National Anthem. The event was supported by Law Chakra as the media partner and six sponsors, including Jurists and Jurists International Law Firm, Naks and Associates, SV Associates, Manupatra, SS Rana & Co., and Mahendra Law Academy.
The festival encouraged networking and collaboration, allowing students to interact with esteemed dignitaries and legal professionals, thereby enhancing their educational experience and broadening their professional horizons. Overall, the festival successfully blended academic pursuits with cultural expressions, reinforcing the active role of students in shaping the future of legal education. The National Law Festival was a significant success, providing an engaging platform for law students to showcase their skills through competitions and cultural events. Students left inspired, gaining valuable insights and connections within the legal field. Their interactions with distinguished professionals enriched their educational experience and deepened their understanding of the complex legal system.
