Objective of the Shodh Charcha: The objective of the Shodh Charcha Law Lecture Series—Ep07 on Bhartya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was to provide an overview of the new penal code recently introduced in India and to discuss the historical and contemporary significance of BNS as a pivotal step towards decolonizing Indian laws, aiming to better reflect indigenous legal principles and societal norms.

Shodh Charcha Law Lecture Series-Ep07 was held on 13th July, 2024. The session was organized by Maharishi Law School in coordination with IQAC. The session featured esteemed guest Prof. (Dr.) Anurag Deep (Professor of Law, Indian Law Institute) and Prof. (Dr.) K.B. Asthana (Dean MLS) alongside faculty coordinator Saumya Shukla (Assistant Professor), Riya Koul (Assistant Professor), and student coordinator LB Kiran (LL.B. 2nd year).

The session commenced with an introductory overview of Bhartya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the new penal code in India. Prof. Anurag Deep emphasized the transformative impact of BNS as a crucial step towards decolonizing Indian laws, highlighting its departure from the existing IPC (Indian Penal Code). Prof. Anurag Deep provided a comprehensive introduction to BNS, elucidating its significance as a modernized legal framework tailored to contemporary Indian societal needs. He underscored BNS's role in reflecting indigenous perspectives and addressing historical gaps in the IPC.

The session proved to be immensely beneficial for students and faculty alike. Prof. Anurag Deep's expertise and extensive research, spanning over 50 publications, enriched participants' understanding of BNS. Students gained valuable insights into the theoretical underpinnings and practical implications of the new penal code.

In conclusion, the session on BNS at Maharishi Law School provided a platform for academic discourse and critical analysis, fostering a deeper appreciation for the evolving landscape of Indian legal frameworks.
