Objective of the Shodh Charcha Law Lecture Series (Ep 06): The objective of the Shodh Charcha Law Lecture Series (Ep. 6) on Energy Laws and Climate Change Management was to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the intricate relationship between energy laws and climate change management, emphasizing global environmental governance and legal frameworks.
Shodh Charcha Law Lecture Series—Ep06 was held on July 6, 2024. The session was organized by Maharishi Law School in coordination with IQAC. The session featured esteemed guest speaker Raj Singh Niranjan (President of Global Energy Arbitration Centre), a prominent figure in energy law and policy, Prof. (Dr.) K.B. Asthana, (Dean MLS), alongside faculty coordinator Saumya Shukla (Assistant Professor), Riya Koul (Assistant Professor), and student coordinator LB Kiran (LL.B. 2nd year).
The session commenced with opening remarks from Prof. (Dr.) K.B. Asthana, Dean MLS, setting the stage for an insightful discussion. Raj Singh Niranjan, leveraging his extensive expertise and experience as an advocate and author on energy laws, delved into the complex interplay between legal frameworks and climate change mitigation strategies. He provided a comprehensive overview of global energy governance structures and their impact on climate policies, elucidating key concepts with practical examples. A major highlight of this session was when Mr. Niranjan challenged common beliefs about how dams and power plants affect the environment. He explained how these structures can actually help wildlife and plant life increase.
The session was marked by active student participation, with Mr. Niranjan fielding questions on various topics, including the environmental impacts of corporate activities and the evolving role of India in energy diplomacy. Students found his explanations on topics such as carbon offsetting and the workings of the carbon market particularly enlightening.
In summary, the Shodh Charcha Law Lecture Series (Ep06) provided invaluable insights into the critical intersections between energy laws and climate change. Mr. Niranjan’s expertise, complemented by the guidance of Dean Prof. (Dr.) KB Asthana, ensured that the webinar was both enriching and informative for all participants.
